How to become a KonMari Consultant
Complete these 7 steps to become a certified KonMari Consultant.
Read the Books
Tidy Your Home
Certified Consultants must practice what they teach. We believe that the experience of having undergone the full tidying process is indispensable to understanding the KonMari Method™, process, and philosophy. You will be asked to submit photos verifying that you have completed the process in your own home.

Attend a Seminar
Attending the seminar is the first big step towards certification. You will only be recognized as a KonMari Consultant-in-training once you have successfully completed the seminar. Register for a seminar.
※ Please note, that attending the workshop does not guarantee you to become a Consultant.
Join the Community
You will be invited to join the growing community of KonMari Consultants and Consultants-in-training, via the official KonMari Seminar Attendee Facebook groups, where you will be able to exchange information and ideas with others who are working toward certification.
※ Please note that you will only be allowed access to the Facebook groups after you have successfully completed the Consultant seminar.
Submit Tidying Reports
Conduct at least ten practice sessions (approximately 50 hours minimum) in at least two clients’ homes and submit reports in the KonMari Method™ order, which will be shared with the “Organize the World” community.
Complete the Exam
The online assessment exam covers concepts and potential scenarios you will face as a Consultant.
Apply for Certification
Once all of the above steps have been successfully fulfilled and your application is approved, you will be required to sign the Consultant contract and pay the activation fee of $500 to activate your KonMari Consultant certification.
Are there any prerequisites for attending the seminar?
We require that all participants read The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up and Spark Joy, and that they have finished tidying their own homes before attending the seminar. Don’t forget to take before & after pictures of your tidying spree! You will be required to submit photos to verify your tidying when registering for the seminar.
Is the price of the hotel stay included in the cost of the seminar?
No. The $2,000 USD only covers the cost of the seminar itself. Participants are responsible for arranging their own accommodations for the duration of their stay.
What sort of topics will be covered in the seminar?
Topics covered during the seminar may include but are not limited to:
- The philosophy of the KonMari Method™
- What it means to be a KonMari Consultant
- How to prepare and conduct consulting sessions
- Common client questions and how to answer them
- Group work
Will Marie Kondo appear at the seminar?
Yes. Marie Kondo is scheduled to speak on the first and last days of the seminar. The seminar will be led by the Director of the Japanese Association of KonMari Tidying Consultants.
In the case of extenuating circumstances, Marie Kondo’s presence may be subject to change.
When and where will the venues for the various seminars be announced?
We do not intend to publicize the KonMari Consultant Seminar venues. Attendees will be notified of the event venue when they purchase their ticket.
My plans have changed and I need to cancel. Is that possible?
Cancellations made within 7 days of purchase will receive a full refund, otherwise:
- Cancellations made more than 7 days after initial registration will have a 20% return processing fee.
- Cancellations made 7 to 4 days prior to the first day of the seminar will have a 50% return processing fee.
- Cancellations made 3 days or less prior to the first day of the seminar cannot be refunded.

Is it possible to get a discount on the price of the seminar?
We are unable to offer discounts for the seminar at this time. We thank you for your understanding.
Is it possible to get certified online or must I attend a Consultant Seminar in person?
We are currently working on developing an online supplement to the Consultant seminars to make certification accessible to more people, but it will still be some time before it goes live. That being the case, certifying Consultants will still be required to complete at least part of their certification in person. There are currently no plans of developing a fully online certification course.
When is the last possible day to register for the seminar?
Registration for the seminar will close 10 days prior to the first day of the seminar at 12:00pm local time of the seminar location, or once registration has reached capacity, assuming this is prior to the above deadline. Final registration dates for future seminars will be announced closer to time.
I want to attend the seminar but I don’t speak English. Will the seminar be offered in languages other than English? Can non-English speakers attend the seminar?
While non-native English speakers are more than welcome to attend, we will unfortunately not be providing translation into any additional languages. The seminar will be presented in Japanese and translated into English by an interpreter.
Will there be future seminars in my country/city?
We have announced the following confirmed seminar dates and locations for 2017:
- April 28 – 30, 2017, in Chicago
- July 14 – July 16, 2017, in Los Angeles
- September 29 – October 1, 2017, in New York
To date, we have conducted Consultant Seminars in New York, San Francisco, Chicago, and Los Angeles. We are also favorably considering conducting seminars outside of the United States in the future. This will likely take place in late 2018 at the earliest. If you would like to receive information about future seminars and other KonMari news, be sure to join our mailing list for future updates.
After certification, what additional support can a KonMari Consultant receive?
Certified KonMari Consultants will be listed on our website and in the KonMari app. They will also have access to certain KonMari Consultant branded materials, press photos, and more.
However, please bear in mind that KonMari Consultants are not employees of KonMari Media Inc., but rather independent proprietary business owners with their own business name and brand and bear full responsibility for their own marketing and services.
How much will I earn as a certified KonMari Consultant?
KonMari Consultants set their own work schedules and prices, based on what is best for them. While it’s difficult to provide an estimate of how much one will make, we can share that Consultants in Japan typically charge the equivalent of about $300 USD for a 5 hour session. Annual income will depend on one’s own schedule, pricing, and client demand.
